Bob White Flight Birds

The Diamond H Ranch began raising Bob White quail for
distribution as flight game birds in 1991. In the beginning,
owner Tom Herrington relied heavily on bird health and
nutrition advice from the Poultry Science Department of
Texas A&M University and the Texas Cooperative Extension
Service.
Today, workers at the Diamond H Ranch collect eggs from
hens housed in a customized, German built, state-of-the-art,
automated breeding facility. The operation has grown into a
large-scale production of pen-raised quail marketed for resale
as both flight birds and meat birds.
Once collected, the eggs are incubated and hatched. Bob White quail chicks are transferred to brooding pens, then later moved to grow-out barns with netted flight runways. Human contact is kept to a minimum to prevent “bonding.”
The Bob White quail are fed starter, grower and finisher grain rations that are specially formulated to meet Diamond H Ranch exacting specifications. The mixtures contain no medication. Vitamins and electrolytes are added to meet the minimum requirements of the birds. At no time are steroids or antibiotics administered.
The primary season for flight birds begins in September, with the peak being October through January. The Diamond H Ranch sells flight birds for range restocking, hunting, game preserves, and hunting dog training. Bob White chicks are available for pick up or delivery. Eggs are available for pick up or UPS shipment.
